On Monday, 8,299 new corona infections were reported in Austria. The number of people infected with Corona in hospitals continues to rise.

8,299 new Corona infections were reported in Austria on Monday
For example, 8,299 new infections were registered across Austria on Sunday, with only 16,978 PCR analyses – meaning that almost every second test returned a positive result. On average, there were 13,956 new infections each day last week. The seven-day incidence on Monday was 1,082.1 cases per 100,000 population.

Highest seven-day incidence in Tyrol
The province with the highest seven-day incidence is Tyrol, with 1,251.9; Upper Aus; Upperith, with 1,221, with four; Salzburg, with four, with 1,207.9. In Carinthia, the incidence is 1,128.3, followed by Lower Austria (1,080.3), Burgenland (1,045.3), Styria (998.8), Vienna (957.9), and Vorarlberg (890.6).

At the beginning of the week, there were 141,727 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, up 1,422 from the previous day. Since the start of the pandemic, there have already been 5,260,762 confirmed cases in Austria.

More Corona-infected people in Austria’s hospitals
At the weekend, the authorities no longer report hospital figures, which is why the comparison is made with Friday. And there was an apparent increase of eleven percent on Monday: 230 infected persons, more than on Friday, had to be treated in domestic hospitals at the beginning of the week, and 19 had to be newly admitted to intensive care units.

A total of 2,428 patients who tested positive were in hospitals on Monday. This is 731 or 43 percent more than on the previous Monday. There were 118 seriously ill patients in intensive care units on Monday – 66.2 percent or 47 patients more than a week ago. These are the highest figures in more than seven months. At the end of March, 2,484 infected patients were in the hospitals; the last time there were more intensive care patients was April 14, when there were 120 seriously ill patients.

47 Corona deaths in the past week
Another Corona death has been reported since Sunday, with 47 deaths in the past week alone. The previous week’s total was 37 deaths. The Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 20,825 lives in Austria since the outbreak. Of over 100,000 inhabitants, 230.7 people have already died from Corona infection.

The number of Corona vaccinations is also on the rise.
Interest in Corona vaccinations is rising again, with nearly 100,000 people getting their fourth or fifth dose in the past week. On Sunday, 1,657 vaccinations were administered across Austria, of which 1,481 were booster vaccinations (4th, 5th, and each subsequent dose). A total of 834,874 people have received booster vaccinations so far.
